In early 2007, the communities of Boston Heights, Hudson, Northfield Center Township and Macedonia agreed to organize the Brandywine Creek Watershed Partnership to work together on shared issues of storm water management and watershed stewardship, and to further the creation of a watershed management plan.
The partnership has been supported by a working group that includes the Cuyahoga River RAP, Ohio EPA, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Summit County Engineers, Summit Soil and Water Conservation District, Summit County Planning and others with the ability to help the communities fashion stewardship programs.
The working group met several times and presented Building Better Watersheds workshops, where local leaders were trained in the functions of watersheds and green infrastructure and worked in groups to identify best practices and optimal uses for various areas of land throughout the Brandywine Creek Watershed.
The Watershed Partnership is being expanded to include communities that inhabit smaller portions of the watershed but whose input is important in order that the entire watershed be represented when community priorities are set and preferred conservation and development areas are officially identified. This exercise will complete the Brandywine Creek Balanced Growth Plan and set the stage for implementation.
